Obra que todo aficionado de Lovecraft debería tener en su estantería, ya que para el autor norteamericano tan importante fue escribir narrativa como poesía. Quizá esta última es más especial aún si cabe, ya que solía escribirla para ocasiones especiales como los cumpleaños de sus amigos. Menos conocida que su obra narrativa, no es por ello menos aterradora.

El libro es una edición en tapa blanda con una buena calidad de papel, como toda la colección Diógenes. La obra se encuentra dividida en dos secciones, la primera incluye los treinta y seis poemas de "Hongos de Yuggoth" mientras que la segunda son dieciséis "Poemas fantásticos". El punto definitivo para adquirir esta colección es que se trata de una edición bilingüe por lo que podremos disfrutar de los versos originales de Howard y una buena traducción al español en un único volumen. Si aún no habéis leído nada sobre la poesía de Lovecraft, os recomiendo la entrada dedicada al estudio de Burleson donde aparece un fragmento de "Yule Horror".

XII - Azathoth

"Out in the mindless void the daemon bore me,
Past the bright clusters of dimensioned space,

While near him shapeless bat-things flopped and fluttered

XXIX - Nostalgia

"Once every year, in autumn's wistful glow,

The birds fly out over an ocean waste,

Calling and chattering in a joyous haste

To reach some land their inner memories know.

Great terraced gardens where bright blossoms blow,

And lines of mangoes luscious to the taste,

And temple-groves with branches interlaced
